Lot’s is said and argued about the term ‘gamification’.
I would like to state that gamification should not be seen as ‘funification’.
We have been discussing game, serious gaming and applied gaming for years now, and still not agree on what we mean, and now we start ‘again’ with this new term, while ‘doing’ it is more important, creating valuable interaction, create motivation in playing regardless the term used.
I think this is a very proper goal: “Gamification is the concept of applying game-design thinking to non-game applications to make them more fun and engaging” [gamification.org]
And come to think of it, this is very close to the same meaning or purpose of serious gaming, applied gaming.
Let’s get beyond the definition discussion and make great concepts!

Couldn’t agree more. Serious games, applied games, gamification, augmented reality and more are all friends. Be a specialist in one and use the others to create great concepts 🙂
At least leave the word: ‘thinking’ out of the goal definition.
And
Lets go beyond the definitions discussion and apply great game conceps!
