As a volunteer at Nairobits I co-developed educational courses for the youth from Nairobi to become Web designers. In 2002 I went to Nairobi several weeks and learned amazingly much about different ways of learning an teaching. I brought many books and materials to lecture about design and for instance specific on the use of colours.
I discovered I needed for them to explore colours in their direct environment instead from what I prepared to talk about from theories. So I asked them to create a palet of objects physically. Amazing stories about colours, the combinations of colours, and personal experiences came tot the table. How design and talking about ingredients in design as colours can elicit conversation and understanding among individuals still amazes me. For instance conversations about the different tribes in Kenya came to the round tables with all divers colours placed in the middel together.
