“This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I’m offering is the truth. Nothing more.” – Morpheus to Neo in the Matrix
The Matrix, Lego the movie and Alice in Wonderland have something very much in common;
The main character Emmet, Neo and Alice are lost between two different worlds of reality and surreality, they get more and more familiair in this ‘weird’ world, the inhabitants and their position or role in this world. All main characters feel insignificant, but are told to be the special one, or questioned to be the one (“are you the real Alice?”). During the adventures confidence skills, knowledge and confidence is built and while the dilemma grows bigger and bigger on which role to play and how. Finally they do become the hero, they grow into their role and postion, and finally it is very much a matter of hope and trust, in yourself and by others in others….
And we actually all experience this in daily life, in this unknown world we are born into, we feel lost, and become more and more competent, gain more autonomy the older we get… yes, I feel more and more like the real Ellis in my Wonderland, however still very often I feel lost as well, it is a journey…
